Meet Kevin! This mini-panther is an absolute doll! He loves to be around his people and will follow them around, especially when its feeding time. This fella has never turned a meal away in his life, and he gladly accepts all food offerings. Kevin has a blast playing with toys whether solo or with his person, and he especially adores interactive toys and those that make noise when tossed or interacted with. He's also a fan of cat nip, and may get a little feisty after sniffing the stuff.

Kevin was humanely captured by a resident of Brattleboro where there is an established community cat population. Less than 24 hours, Kevin proved he was far from feral. With his personality and overall good body condition, it is most likely that this guy was abandoned.

Kevin is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all veterinary services. He is estimated to be around 5 years old. He also tested negative for FeLV/FIV.

This handsome sir will likely do well with older, respectful children. He would also do fine with a cat-savvy dog, but he prefers feline companionship, especially the ladies.

If you're looking for a fun, chill feline friend that can at times act like separation from you is physically painful, than Kevin may be your guy!

Please Note: Kevin is very particular about the litter he prefers to use as well as its cleanliness. If his litter box is not cleaned daily (or even twice a day sometimes), he has had a few defecation accidents outside of the box. Kevin prefers clumping litter with finer grains.

Atticus (Addie)

Species: Cat

Sex: Male

Age: 7 years

Children: Yes (older)

Meet Atticus aka Addie! This handsome tabby is seeking a calmer home that will understand he takes a bit to warm up to new people, but once he does Atticus is incredibly sweet. A huge fan of catnip toys and treats, Atticus enjoys playing, watching nature shows out the window, and lounging in the sun. He has successfully lived with a female feline friend as well as a cat-savvy dog. Atticus even played with his hound buddy from time-to-time.

Atticus is on a prescription diet and will need to continue receiving the urinary support whether Hills Science Diet C/D or Royal Canin SO to avoid crystals forming in his bladder which could lead to a urinary blockage. For newer cat owners, a urinary blockage in male felines is a medical emergency! If left untreated, the affected male cat can pass away.

Other than needing a special diet, Atticus is a healthy guy! Granted, he could stand to lose weight, which in turn will help reduce the likelihood of other illnesses. When it comes to food, Atticus LOVES gravy! He will not eat pate and is not a huge fan of chicken.

As Addie is more timid and frightened by sudden loud noises, he is not a good candidate for a home with younger children, rowdy dogs, or a household that tends to be busy with tons of visitors. With a quieter home and patient parent, Atticus will thrive and prove he is an amazing feline companion!

August MeowWho, affectionately known as Auggie! Are there any fans of Jim Carrey's The Grinch Stole Christmas? Being an integral part of our founder's inside jokes with her spouse, it only seemed fitting to finally name a rescue in honor of their humor. Auggie is certainly a boisterous lad, too! Estimated to be between 8 and 9 months old, this kitten is FULL of energy, and for him zoomies are not only a night time activity. Fortunately, he thoroughly enjoys playing with toys of all kinds, and his favorites include coils, plush mice, and interactive games that entice him to chase and pounce. When it comes to play, Auggie prefers to engage with feline friends or to play on his own.

Auggie was originally found living under a dumpster by a Brattleboro local. At the time, he was only a little over 2 months old and winter was in full swing. Fortunately, the kindhearted woman was able to get him inside late one night when she heard him crying at her door. The next day FLOA welcomed the scared little guy, and he was given a flea bath and lots of warm towel snuggles. It didn't take long for one of the founder's cats to take on the role of foster father. Orin helped raise Auggie.

While he is a confident cat once he is comfortable in his environment, he is very wary of strangers and is quick to run from loud noises or brisk, unexpected movements. Considering he started life on the streets fending for himself alone, it is understandable that he is cautious with new things and new people. He is not a fan of fireworks or storms.

Auggie prefers male caregivers to females and is especially in love with the founder's husband. Auggie will ask him to snuggle in his lap, but he is not a huge fan of being picked up. He will most likely only bond with one person as opposed to an entire family. Auggie is FULL of energy and can get into kitten mischief if not provided regular play and enrichment, but he is hilarious to watch play. He is super food motivated and wants to eat everything (and I mean everything). He will try to steal food from people or counters if left unattended. We have to store all cat food in a container with a screw-in top to prevent any stealing (and this is from multiple cats, lol). Auggie is very bonded with several cats here at the rescue and would honestly do best with a feline friend in his furever home. That being said, we will likely not adopt him to a home where he will be the only cat. If interested in adopting Auggie with his best friend, Houdini, we would be over the moon to see them continue to live together!

Up-to-date on vaccinations, Auggie is neutered, microchipped, and he tested negative for FeLV/FIV. He is not currently receiving any medication or supplements, and he continues to develop appropriately.

Auggie spent the last few months around two dogs (one on the medium size and one larger). While he is not buddies with either dog, he accepts them in his space so long as they leave him alone (which they do). With a slow introduction, Auggie will likely do fine in a home with a new dog roommate given the canine is cat-savvy and respectful. As Auggie can play very roughly, he would not do well with any senior animals or young children. Auggie also tends to do better with other male cats when it comes to playing appropriately.

Looking for an accomplished hunter? August has proven himself, but be warned, he will consume any rodents he catches. For enrichment, we have actually given Auggie frozen thawed feeder mice as well as dried minnows, and he loved both.

Meet Houdini! Found as an emaciated stray, this little fellow was temporarily cared for by Rose Rittenhour, Founder and President of The Retirement Roost Rescue in Vernon, VT. After receiving a wellness exam, vaccinations, and getting neutered, Houdini came to FLOA to heal, decompress, and gain much needed weight.

Houdini is a shy guy, very uncertain when it comes to people, but an absolute feline fan! More recently, Houdini joined the mini-colony upstairs where he adores his best friends Orin (our founder's cat) and Auggie (another rescue). He plays super well with the other cats and loves grooming his friends.

Houdini is not a huge fan of men and shows more signs of anxiety and stress when one is nearby, but he has been able to show comfort with the male caregiver here as time went on.

Unfortunately, Houdini's behavior and reactions indicate past abuse by humans, and he has yet to want physical affection. That does not stop him from purring and making biscuits when we praise and speak to him in a soft, higher pitched voice. Despite his sad history, Houdini is a super sweet guy. When he is nervous, he just scuttles away and may hide. It's important that he always have a quiet, enclosed space to return to when he is feeling anxious--this helped Houdini tremendously in acclimating to his new lifestyle.

As Houdini is easily startled and sensitive to loud, fast-paced commotion, he would prefer a quiet and calm home without young children or dogs.  As one of our Whisper Whiskers, it is important to understand that Houdini may always prefer the companionship of other felines to people, and he may never enjoy human contact. Nevertheless, he is very entertaining with toys and he adores getting to play with a variety.

Houdini went through a lot in the beginning of his life (he's barely 2 years old), and we cannot wait to see him find his furever family that wishes to welcome him as he is. He's a charmer when he finally feels comfy with you.

Meet Ula! This beautiful tortie has settled well into her new indoor lifestyle. Feral for over two years with an unknown history, it can understandably take Ula time to warm up. When she does, Ula can be very affectionate. She enjoys napping right beside you or in your lap, and will politely request attention when desired.

Ula does maintain stricter boundaries, and it's important to understand that her relationship to people is very different than cats raised around humans from kittens. With patience, respect, and kindness, Ula will thrive, and she will make a wonderful companion for the right person.

Due to her history, we will not adopt Ula to a household with young children, as her corrections could injure and scare them. Being a tortie, she indeed possesses the famous "tortitude." Ula does not like dogs and she will not tolerate sharing her space with another cat.

Ula loves Temptations cat treats and her "babies" (aka stuffed animals). While she's not a fan of cat nip, she does enjoy rubbing all over cat nip filled toys. Ula also enjoys chasing after little mouse toys thrown for her.

Ula can only be adopted by an experienced cat parent.
